Dozens of firefighters from Colorado Task Force One have returned home after weeks of assisting in the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton in the southeastern U.S. The task force comprises 23 fire departments across Colorado, including the Colorado Springs Fire Department.
These emergency responders are specially trained and designated as a national resource, prepared to assist through FEMA during disasters.

Lieutenant Aaron McConnellogue expressed the honor of helping communities in need, noting that many people are unaware that these responders are local firefighters.

Their recent mission transitioned from search and rescue to humanitarian efforts, providing essential support such as food, water, and medication while ensuring community safety.

Andrew Notbohm, Executive Director of the Pikes Peak Office of Emergency Management, emphasized the importance of these missions for enhancing local emergency preparedness in Colorado.

The experiences gained from these efforts improve operational coordination and resource management for future disasters.
