Rapper Lil Jon surprised the audience on the second day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago by interrupting the roll call to perform.
When it was Georgia’s turn to cast their votes during the Ceremonial Roll Call of States, Lil Jon, who is from Atlanta, appeared in the crowd. He excitedly shouted, We are here tonight to officially nominate Kamala Harris for president! while his song Turn Down For What” played in the background. As he walked down the arena’s stairs, he got the crowd to chant, We’re not going back! and then sang a modified version of his song “Get Low, saying VP Harris to the Walz.
After his brief performance, Lil Jon paused so that Georgia’s delegates could cast their 123 votes for Harris. While one of the delegates explained their support for Harris, Lil Jon made an A symbol with his fingers, representing Atlanta.
Lil Jon’s appearance seems to show his support for the Kamala Harris and Tim Walz ticket. The rapper has had previous encounters with former President Donald Trump, having appeared on “The Celebrity Apprentice in 2011 and “All-Star Celebrity Apprentice in 2013. During one of the shows, Lil Jon claimed that Trump called him Uncle Tom, a racial slur that Trump reportedly continued to use even after it was explained to him.
