At a recent meeting of the Hamilton County Pachyderm Club in Chattanooga, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs, a former WWE wrestler known as Kane, discussed the future of the Republican Party in Tennessee. Jacobs, who has served as Knox County mayor since 2018, emphasized the state’s critical role in the party’s success, especially following the Republican victories in the recent elections, including President-elect Donald Trump’s win.

He noted that Tennessee’s conservative climate is a major draw for newcomers, pointing out that many are moving to the state due to its appeal, with most new arrivals sharing conservative values.

Jacobs also highlighted concerns over low Republican voter turnout in non-presidential elections, referencing a drop in Republican participation between the 2018 and 2022 midterms in Knox County. He stressed the need for better organization and voter engagement, similar to the efforts of Democrats, who Jacobs said consistently show up to vote.

When asked about his own political future, Jacobs remained non-committal regarding a potential gubernatorial run in 2026, when Governor Bill Lee will be term-limited and unable to seek re-election. However, Jacobs noted that much would unfold in the coming weeks following the 2024 presidential election.

The meeting served as a moment of reflection for Republicans, with Pachyderm Club President Kevin Roberts recalling how Trump’s rise reshaped the party and vowing continued efforts to solidify Tennessee’s influence in national politics.
