Delegates from Kansas and Missouri arrived in Chicago on Monday for the Democratic National Convention.

They are excited to channel their support for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris into action at the polls on November 5.

Jeanna Repass, chair of the Kansas Democratic Party, expressed that their work so far was about preparation. Now we get to celebrate,” she said. We’ve moved past the technicalities and are ready to engage.

Harris has received strong backing from Democrats since President Joe Biden announced he would not seek reelection and endorsed her.

While Republicans have criticized Harris as more show than substance, Repass anticipates that Harris will focus on issues of freedom in her platform, including women’s rights, freedom to read, and affordable healthcare in retirement.

Geoff Gerling, a delegate from Missouri, expects Harris to discuss economic policies. Continuing many of President Biden’s policies is key, he said. We’ve seen a remarkable recovery from COVID.

The DNC will also address other races beyond the presidential election. Gerling hopes the enthusiasm for Harris will boost turnout and benefit other Democratic candidates.

We have a lot of energy at the top of the ballot, Gerling said. This will help us win races further down the ballot.
