Rep. Jared Golden D-ME is positioning himself as a centrist to appeal to voters in Maine’s competitive 2nd Congressional District, where he faces a strong challenge from Republican Austin Theriault. Golden, a member of the Blue Dog Coalition, is emphasizing bipartisan leadership, saying he rejects strict party loyalty.

He has gained the support of Sen. Joe Manchin I-WV another centrist known for defying party lines, who praised Golden for his independent approach.

Golden has often opposed his party’s stance on energy and climate policy, advocating for a balanced, all of the above approach to energy that emphasizes American-made resources.

He supported Republican-led efforts to reduce environmental regulations and backed the Inflation Reduction Act, aligning himself with Manchin’s centrist framework.

With his race tightening, Golden aims to rebuild the Blue Dog Coalition, advocating for more populist and independent political power while navigating the pressure to adopt party-driven policies.

His effort to retain his seat comes as Republicans look to expand their presence in Congress.
