Atlantic, IA — On Monday evening, Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird addressed supporters at the Cass County Republican Headquarters as she nears the end of her first year in office. The former Guthrie County Attorney focused on several key topics, with a particular emphasis on her commitment to supporting and defending law enforcement across the state.
Bird highlighted her office’s efforts to combat overdose deaths, specifically noting the importance of holding individuals accountable for supplying illegal drugs that result in fatalities. She stated, “It’s vital that those who contribute to these tragedies face justice in Iowa’s prisons.
In addressing perceptions of law enforcement, Bird responded to what she termed false narratives from coastal states, emphasizing that these views do not reflect her own experiences. She criticized certain Democratic candidates for politicizing law enforcement and advocating for defunding police, asserting that while many people across party lines support law enforcement, this support does not extend to all Democratic candidates.
In addition to her focus on law enforcement, Bird is actively pursuing legal actions against mandates requiring the purchase of electric vehicles. She expressed her belief that individuals should have the freedom to choose their vehicles.
Furthermore, she raised concerns about the practicality of electric semi-trucks, pointing out the lack of commercial availability and charging infrastructure for these vehicles.
Brenna Bird was elected on November 8, 2022, and officially assumed office on January 1, 2023.
