On Sunday, Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias joined local faith leaders at Jordan Temple Baptist Church in Hillside to encourage organ and tissue donations ahead of Thanksgiving.
Giannoulias spoke to the congregation during National Donor Sabbath, a day observed two weeks before Thanksgiving to raise awareness about the importance of organ donations.
He emphasized the life-saving impact of becoming a donor, noting that one donor can save up to 25 lives.
Rev. Stephen Richardson, pastor at Jordan Temple and a two-time heart transplant recipient, shared his personal experience with the congregation, crediting Illinois’ donor programs for saving his life.
During the service, Giannoulias presented a proclamation to Richardson, honoring his advocacy for organ donation.
