Hunter Biden’s legal team argues that his convictions on gun and tax charges were politically motivated and that President Joe Biden should pardon him. With Hunter facing sentencing in California and Delaware soon, his lawyers released a 52-page document claiming that his case is part of a political attack, particularly with the incoming Trump administration.

They argue that Hunter’s mistakes, made while struggling with addiction, led to harsh penalties, which they say are unfair compared to others who commit similar offenses.

The investigation into Hunter Biden has been overseen by special counsel David Weiss, who was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland.

The legal team claims that Hunter is facing political pressure, especially from former President Donald Trump, who has publicly expressed animosity toward the Biden family. Trump’s remarks about Hunter suggest he may target him further once in office, the document claims.

Hunter was convicted in June of lying on a federal form when buying a gun in 2018 and possessing the weapon illegally. Later, he pled guilty to tax charges, leading to possible prison time and large fines. Hunter’s legal team argues that he paid his overdue taxes years ago, before charges were filed, making the case against him unfair.

President Biden has said he won’t pardon his son before leaving office, but Trump has hinted he might consider a pardon for Hunter during his own second term.

Trump has been vocal about Hunter, especially in relation to the infamous laptop controversy, which some say revealed evidence of corruption, while others dismiss it as a hoax. Despite this, Trump has recently expressed a willingness to pardon Hunter if elected again.

Trump has also suggested that, if he wanted, he could easily have former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton jailed over her handling of classified information, citing evidence from a 2016 investigation.

However, in recent months, Trump has taken a more conciliatory tone, suggesting he could pardon both Hunter Biden and Clinton in the future.
