Mitch Landrieu, national co-chair for the Harris-Walz campaign, expressed optimism on Sunday about Vice President Harris’s chances in Georgia for the general election this November.
In an MSNBC interview on “The Weekend,” Landrieu stated, “We really think we have a good shot at winning Georgia. We’re going to fight hard there and make Donald Trump defend every part of the country.”
Landrieu emphasized the campaign’s commitment to Georgia, highlighting that they gained new momentum when Harris became the presumptive nominee after President Biden stepped down. He also mentioned key Democratic figures from Georgia, including Senator Warnock, Senator Ossoff, and Representative Lucy McBath.
Next week, Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, are scheduled to visit Georgia, a key battleground state.
Polls show Harris trailing Trump in Georgia by 2.7 percentage points, with Trump at 49.2% and Harris at 46.5%. This is worse than Harris’s national average, where she leads Trump by 3.6 percentage points. In other battleground states, Trump leads Harris in Nevada by 1 point, while in Arizona, the race is nearly tied. Harris, however, leads Trump in Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
In the 2020 election, Biden narrowly won Georgia, while Trump won the state in 2016.
