Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham recently nominated Ricardo Gonzales, the Regional Vice President of El Paso Electric, to a four-year term on New Mexico State University’s Board of Regents.

The Board of Regents is responsible for overseeing university operations, governance, policies, and degree approval.

The regents also manage the New Mexico Department of Agriculture, which is housed at the university, a land-grant institution.

Gonzales, an alumnus of NMSU, expressed his pride in being nominated, reflecting on his connection to the university and his early experiences there.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from NMSU and has a background in legislative affairs, having worked with the university and the state Department of Agriculture.

Gonzales oversees operations, strategy, and government relations for El Paso Electric in New Mexico, a utility serving southern New Mexico.

His confirmation to the Board of Regents will require approval from the state senate, which is expected to happen during the upcoming legislative session.

Regents serve staggered six-year terms, and Gonzales’s appointment highlights his commitment to expanding the university’s impact across New Mexico.
