Governor Jared Polis of Colorado has decided to grant clemency to 26 people. This includes 4 people who had their sentences reduced and 22 others who were pardoned.

Among those pardoned, six people from El Paso County were included. One of them was Ronnie West, Jr., who was convicted of stealing a camcorder back in 1996. In a letter to West, Governor Polis explained that what he did would be considered a misdemeanor today instead of a felony.

The governor also noted that West had committed this crime during a tough time in his youth when he didn’t have family support.

Another person pardoned was Randy Guthridge, who had been convicted of not paying child support in 1984. Governor Polis wrote to him, praising his efforts to turn his life around. Guthridge had repaid the overdue child support and lived a law-abiding life for the past 50 years.

He has also worked hard in manufacturing and construction. The governor also thanked him for his service to the country.

In every letter, the governor included the same message: Not everyone earns the privilege of a second chance. But you have shown that you deserve one. I hope you will make the most of this opportunity and take your responsibilities seriously.
