Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, a Democrat known for her anti-gun stance, has extended an executive order declaring “gun violence” a public health emergency until December 29, 2023. This extension emphasizes the governor’s ongoing efforts to restrict the rights of lawful gun owners in New Mexico.

The executive orders issued by Governor Lujan Grisham require collaboration among various departments, including the Department of Health, Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Department of Public Safety, and Health Care Authority. Although the renewal doesn’t bring any changes to the existing orders, it maintains current public health directives, including the prohibition of guns in parks.

Notably, the governor was absent during the signing, and Lt. Gov. Howie Morales assumed the responsibility on her behalf. This decision to renew executive orders comes at a time when gun control measures are a hot topic of debate nationwide.

Critics in New Mexico, who uphold constitutional principles, argue that executive actions violate individual rights and circumvent legislative processes designed for democratic decision-making. They express concern about neglecting inalienable constitutional rights and question the effectiveness of labeling “gun violence” as a public health emergency in addressing the complex social issues associated with it.

Governor Lujan Grisham has promised updates on initiatives addressing gun violence later this month. However, despite these executive orders, there have been no tangible changes to protect the residents of New Mexico.

As the governor persists in her efforts to restrict gun rights, the ongoing debate surrounding these executive orders is expected to continue into the next legislative session. Discussions may focus on potential impeachment for violating the governor’s oath, with far-left Democrats advocating for the removal of rights from New Mexicans.
