MICHIGAN, USA — Governor Gretchen Whitmer has declared July as Michigan Wildlife Conservation Month to honor the state’s wildlife and emphasize the importance of fishing and hunting.
The Michigan Wildlife Council is marking the month with special activities to engage more residents with nature.
Nick Buggia, a council chair, noted that sales of hunting and fishing licenses are a major source of conservation funding for Michigan and other states. He observed that more young people are getting involved in these activities, especially fishing and hunting, which saw a boost during COVID as people turned to outdoor recreation.
Buggia expressed hope that these efforts will help protect Michigan’s wildlife and natural resources for future generations.
