Governor Kevin Stitt recently addressed the potential layoffs of federal employees at Tinker Air Force Base, acknowledging the uncertainty surrounding the issue while reassuring Oklahomans that the state would assist those affected if layoffs were to occur.

The rumors, first reported by This is Topeka, suggest that around 600 civilian employees at the base may lose their jobs.

Despite these reports, Stitt emphasized that no layoffs have been confirmed and referred to the rumors as “just rumors,” with no official confirmation from federal authorities.

Stitt expressed his confidence in Oklahoma’s strong job market, highlighting the state’s 3.3% unemployment rate and its reputation as a business-friendly environment.

Should layoffs happen, the governor committed to working with the Oklahoma Department of Commerce to organize job fairs and provide retraining opportunities for the affected workers.

He pointed out that many Tinker employees could transition into new roles in Oklahoma’s thriving aerospace and aviation sectors.
