PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Gov. Glenn Youngkin has announced a housing loan program benefiting three local apartment communities in Hampton Roads. A total of $22 million has been allocated for Affordable and Special Needs Housing loans across 14 projects in Virginia. These initiatives aim to support low-income households and preserve nearly 880 housing units.

In Isle of Wight, Norfolk, and Portsmouth, specific apartment complexes will benefit from this initiative. Jersey Park Apartments in Isle of Wight is slated to receive approximately $2 million, providing around 80 units for low-income residents, as reported by the Hud Housing Network.

Portsmouth will see new affordable housing at Bains Pointe, named after Eliza Bains, an advocate who assisted slaves through the Underground Railroad in the city, according to Woda Cooper Companies.

In Norfolk, Gosnold II Apartments are also preparing to open and accept applications for single-room apartments.
