Rex Heuermann, the accused Gilgo Beach serial killer, recently sold his secluded South Carolina property, located at 1031 Rippling Brooke Dr. in Chester, to his estranged wife Asa Ellerup for just $1, following his arrest in 2023.
Shortly after, Ellerup transferred the 5.34-acre property to Heuermann’s brother, Craig, also for $1.
This rural retreat, purchased by Heuermann in 2021 for $154,351, had been part of his retirement plans, but his arrest upended those ambitions.
Chester County sheriffs searched the property last summer, uncovering a Chevrolet Avalanche, a key piece of evidence linking Heuermann to the murders.
Real estate attorney Sergey Mekhtiyev speculated that Heuermann may have transferred the property as part of his divorce settlement, noting that his financial situation likely left him unable to maintain the mortgage.
Craig Heuermann, who owns multiple properties in the area, has a troubled past himself, having served time in prison for the 1988 death of a New York police captain in a DWI-related crash. Despite the sale, the mortgage is now Craig’s responsibility.
Rex Heuermann, 60, faces murder charges for the deaths of multiple women, including Megan Waterman and Melissa Barthelemy, with DNA evidence from items such as a discarded pizza box and his daughter’s energy drink can linking him to the crimes.
