In an unprecedented turn of events, Florida State found itself excluded from the College Football Playoff despite finishing as the first undefeated Power Five conference champion. While many attribute this snub to the selection committee, one former Seminoles player is pointing fingers elsewhere – squarely at the Georgia Bulldogs.
Keon Coleman, a former wide receiver for FSU, placed the blame on Georgia’s loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game, suggesting that it indirectly propelled the Crimson Tide into the playoff ahead of the Seminoles.
During an appearance on Robert Griffin III’s podcast, Coleman expressed his frustration, stating, “How many players we had drafted? Ten? Eleven? We’re going to see who was better when it comes out in the NFL.”
Coleman went on to emphasize that Florida State missed the opportunity to prove itself against Georgia in a playoff setting due to the Bulldogs’ defeat to Alabama. He asserted that had Georgia emerged victorious, they would have faced Florida State in a meaningful bowl game, rather than the Orange Bowl, which the Seminoles lost 63-3 to Georgia.
According to Coleman’s perspective, a Georgia victory over Alabama would have eliminated the need for the selection committee to consider Texas, who had previously defeated the Crimson Tide. He questioned Georgia’s resilience against Alabama, implying a pattern of underperformance.
“If y’all would’ve won and done what y’all was supposed to do, y’all would’ve had to see us,” Coleman remarked, suggesting that Georgia’s loss prevented a potential showdown between the Bulldogs and the Seminoles.
Coleman’s sentiments reflect a deep disappointment among Florida State fans and players, who feel they were unjustly denied a chance at the playoff due to external circumstances.
