FOLSOM – Before school starts, Folsom police have launched a pedestrian safety operation to emphasize the importance of respecting crosswalks.

A nanny who works near Sutter Middle School noted that crossing the street can be risky due to drivers not stopping when they should. She believes there are many drivers breaking the law, especially in school zones where it gets chaotic.

Folsom Police Officer Linh Co emphasized that a lack of attention could lead to accidents involving children. With pedestrian accidents rising during the summer, the police are urging drivers to be extra cautious as schools reopen.

Motor officers are monitoring various locations near crosswalks and schools, watching for distracted drivers and pedestrians. The operation has been busy, with officers pointing out that visible signs and lights are used to alert drivers and pedestrians of potential crossings.

The nanny expressed concern about frequent accidents and skid marks, fearing that it could soon result in a child getting hurt.

While Folsom police are issuing citations, their primary goal is education. They urge everyone to prioritize safety and be vigilant. Pedestrians should also be aware that they don’t always have the right of way and could be cited if they are not careful.
