A small plane crash in a Dallas suburb claimed the life of an Arizona man earlier this week. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. CST on Tuesday in the parking lot of a Plano shopping center, just north of Air Park-Dallas Airport. According to CBS 11, the plane crashed outside Mama’s Daughters’ Diner and subsequently caught fire.
The Plano police confirmed the fatality, identifying the pilot as Elzie M. McDonald from Arizona. He was the sole occupant of the single-engine Mooney M20 aircraft. McDonald, who was days away from his 88th birthday, resided in Aguila, a small unincorporated community in far northwest Maricopa County, as per online records.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported among bystanders on the ground. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are currently investigating the crash.
