BOSTON WWLP/AP – Kevin Kangethe, the man wanted in Massachusetts on murder charges, has been extradited from Nairobi, Kenya, nearly a year after he left the U.S.
Kangethe is accused of killing his girlfriend, Margaret Mbitu, whose body was discovered in an SUV at Logan International Airport last October. He arrived back in the U.S. on Sunday and is scheduled to appear in Suffolk Superior Court on Tuesday.
Mbitu, a health care aide from Halifax, was last seen leaving work on October 30th. Her family reported her missing after she failed to return home. Investigators believe she traveled with Kangethe to Lowell, where he was later found with some of her personal belongings.
In January, Kangethe escaped from a police cell in Kenya after a visit from his lawyer. Four police officers on duty were disciplined, and Kangethe was recaptured a week later. His extradition process continued from then.
