El Paso, Texas – Recent data shows a significant drop in U.S. Border Patrol encounters with unauthorized migrants since June.

Despite this, Texas Governor Greg Abbott continues to express concern over the approximately 58,000 migrants still crossing the border each month.

Abbott criticized the Biden administration’s border policies, tweeting, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have allowed more illegal immigrants to cross our southern border than ever before.

Texas is fighting back by tripling our razor wire barriers to prevent illegal entry into our state and country.

In response, Texas Army National Guard troops have been deploying additional fencing and razor wire along the Rio Grande, including areas facing New Mexico.

This extension comes as a precaution against potential spillover of smuggling activities from New Mexico into Texas. Recent incidents have seen migrants rescued from strong river currents by border agents and local first responders.

The Santa Teresa New Mexico Border Patrol station remains one of the nation’s busiest for migrant smuggling, with numerous encounters with deceased migrants occurring near Sunland Park, New Mexico.

The new barrier extends from West Paisano Drive to the Texas side of the Anapra, New Mexico, bridge.
