In a hard-fought race to succeed California Rep. Katie Porter, Republican Scott Baugh has conceded defeat to Democratic state legislator Dave Min, ensuring the Orange County district remains under Democratic control.
Baugh, who had narrowly lost to Porter in 2022, expressed disappointment but acknowledged the voters’ decision.
He had hoped to work across party lines to address issues like border security, rising crime, and federal spending.
Min, after overcoming a tough primary challenge, emphasized his law enforcement endorsements and sought to distance himself from Baugh’s ties to former President Donald Trump.
The outcome reflects the district’s evolving political landscape, where Democrats have gained ground, despite initial concerns about the seat’s future without Porter.
