ENCINO, Calif.(Thechieftainspear) – – A family in Encino is raising awareness after making a disturbing discovery outside their home: a hidden camera placed among the bushes, possibly used for criminal surveillance.
The incident came to light when a woman visiting her parents’ house on Saturday noticed something unusual in a tree near the front of the property. Upon closer inspection, she found a small camera attached to green wires, which led into the bushes. Shocked, she informed her parents, who confirmed they had not installed any such device.
Concerned for their safety, the family carefully removed the camera using gloves and soon discovered another suspicious object nearby—believed to be a hard drive.
“We’re all shaken,” the woman said. “It’s terrifying to think someone may have been watching my parents and tracking their routine without them even knowing.”

Experts warn that these types of hidden cameras, often inexpensive models equipped with SIM cards, are used by criminals to monitor homeowners’ schedules. Burglars can then determine the best time to strike when residents are away.
Security professionals have observed similar surveillance tactics in other Southern California cities, including Temecula, Arcadia, and Santa Barbara County. Some criminals even use drones to scan backyards for vulnerabilities, such as unlocked doors or open windows on higher floors.
Authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and check around their properties for any suspicious devices. The Los Angeles Police Department advises that if someone discovers an unfamiliar camera or tracking device near their home, they should not hesitate to call 911 .
