The Colorado Libertarian Party has filed a lawsuit against Secretary of State Jena Griswold and her deputy, Christopher Beall, in response to a recently discovered security lapse involving the online posting of hundreds of election equipment passwords.

Filed in Denver District Court, the suit calls for the immediate decommissioning of the implicated voting equipment and a hand-count of ballots in affected counties.

Party officials, including state chair Hannah Goodman and 3rd Congressional District nominee James Wiley, allege that Griswold and Beall failed in their public responsibilities by not responding promptly to the leak.

Wiley claims the delay in addressing the breach undermines voter confidence and calls for preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.

The Libertarians are also seeking Griswold and Beall’s recusal from election oversight and a state investigation by the Attorney General’s Office into the incident.

The lawsuit further challenges an emergency rule issued by Beall permitting additional state employees to assist with password updates statewide.

Gov. Jared Polis and Griswold responded on Friday, asserting that all affected passwords had been updated and that the breach posed no security threat to Colorado’s election processes.

Griswold reassured voters, citing the state’s robust security measures designed to protect electoral integrity.

The lawsuit will proceed with a hearing on Monday, with Judge Kandace C. Gerdes presiding.
