California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency due to the Bridge and Airport Fires, two large wildfires currently affecting Southern California. This follows a similar declaration for the Line Fire made over the weekend. Together, these fires have burned over 100,000 acres, primarily in national forests.
Newsom made the announcement after visiting the affected area, including the outskirts of the Line Fire, which has led to evacuations in the San Bernardino Mountains, including Big Bear.
The declaration enables the state to offer additional support to local agencies dealing with the fires. The state has also received help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, boosting the resources available to first responders, who are working tirelessly to manage the situation.
California is using all available resources to fight these fires and will continue to collaborate closely with federal and local partners, said Governor Newsom. We are deeply thankful to the firefighters and first responders working around the clock to keep Californians safe.
