BART began installing Next Generation Fare Gates at Powell Street Station on November 1.
The installation will proceed in phases on the concourse level, ensuring that some gates remain operational throughout the process.
BART staff and clear signage will help direct riders to open gates, and temporary barriers will secure work areas for rider safety.
Each set of new gates will take up to two weeks to install, with all six sets expected to be completed by December.
Train service will continue uninterrupted, though BART advises travelers to allow extra time for fare gate access, especially during peak hours.
