The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts (ASMSA) is entering an exciting phase with the nearing completion of its new $5.5 million administration building. This marks a significant milestone as the school moves away from its old location at St. Joseph’s Hospital on campus.

Situated on Pine Street next to the student center, this 11,500-square-foot facility has been steadily taking shape since construction commenced last summer, overseen by local firms Harris Architecture and Harrison Construction Company Inc.

Corey Alderdice, ASMSA’s Director, emphasized that beyond its administrative role, the new building is designed to enhance student life with communal spaces.

An atrium, serving as a 24-hour hub, will accommodate student activities, promoting a lively atmosphere even outside of class hours. This approach underscores ASMSA’s commitment to creating not just functional spaces but environments that foster social interaction and student engagement.

Administratively, the building will house key offices such as the director’s office, institutional advancement, STEM pathways, finance, and admissions. Each floor includes flexible meeting spaces, facilitating collaboration and meeting the operational needs of the school community.

This development is part of ASMSA’s broader efforts to rejuvenate its campus. Recent projects include the $18.4 million student center established in 2010 and the $4.7 million Creativity and Innovation Complex completed in 2019.

Repurposing the old administration building for faculty offices signifies ASMSA’s transition towards a unified campus identity distinct from its hospital origins.

ASMSA plans to vacate the old hospital premises by the year’s end, allowing Hot Springs to initiate demolition within 18 months, with completion expected within a further 12 months. Alderdice expressed optimism about ASMSA’s future, envisioning a campus that not only fulfills its educational mission but also serves as a vibrant community hub.

In summary, ASMSA’s new administration building represents more than just a physical structure—it embodies the school’s commitment to growth and innovation in education.

By integrating modern facilities with student-focused spaces, ASMSA continues to evolve, ensuring its campus remains a dynamic environment where students thrive both academically and socially.
