On Sunday morning, about 1,500 motorcyclists set out from Sherwood Island in Westport for a charitable ride that began after the September 11, 2001 attacks. This annual event honors Connecticut heroes who have died in the line of duty and those who served after 9/11. The riders covered around 60 miles, passing through nine cities and towns in Fairfield County, and ended their journey at Seaside Beach in Bridgeport.

Fred Garrity Jr., the event’s executive director, said, This is how you never forget. This is what America is all about. Everyone is red, white, and blue, and we’re all standing together today. Richard Corraro from Shelton added, Riding through the streets with the flags and the firemen—it’s a very emotional experience and I’m proud to be part of it. The funds raised from the event go to emergency relief funds for Connecticut police officers and firefighters and support two local United Way nonprofits.
