An Alabama state representative, Rep. Tracy Estes R-Winfield, is facing a protective order after allegedly making violent threats.

The order, filed in Marion County Circuit Court, alleges that Estes verbally threatened the petitioner for two hours, leading the person to fear for their safety.

No legal representation for either party was listed in the online records as of Saturday afternoon.

House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter R-Rainsville acknowledged the situation, expressing confidence that the justice system would address the matter appropriately.

Ledbetter emphasized that elected officials should be held to the highest standards both professionally and personally.

Estes, who was first elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 2018 and re-elected in 2022, previously served on the Marion County Board of Education.
