BIRMINGHAM, Ala. WIAT – Auto insurance rates are set to keep rising this year, with Alabama expected to see an 18% increase.
AAA notes that these increases are a trend, as car insurance rates have been going up annually for several years. Clay Ingram from AAA explains that higher repair costs and stagnant crash rates are key factors behind the hikes.
Ingram advises checking insurance rates every two to three years because different companies have varying pricing methods. What suits one person might not work for another.
He acknowledges that rising costs are tough, especially with minimum wage and other expenses also going up.
Many people are struggling with higher living costs, and increasing insurance rates add to their financial stress. Some drivers feel frustrated but see no alternative.
Birmingham resident Jermyko Wilson humorously expressed his frustration, saying, “It’s like you just ruined my weekend,” while Rebekah Odle mentioned she switched insurance companies to manage costs better, despite having no issues with her previous provider.
Wilson also criticized the high costs of insurance, calling it a scam and noting that accidents don’t happen every month.
AAA has stated it does not plan to raise auto insurance rates further this year.
