On September 6th, 2019 our North Little Rock Wildcats football team hosted Whitehaven from Memphis, Tennessee. Before the game,  junior cornerback Amarion Williams felt optimistic.

“I feel like we just have to go out there and execute and play the ball right, defensively,”  said Williams. “We always give them something they can catch if they need to get pumped up, go out there and make a big play, and do something with great energy.”

The first quarter of the game the Wildcats put up a fight, executing plays defensively, but the Tigers managed to push through and score a touchdown. They didn’t make their field goal but it left the Wildcats trailing by 6 points. During halftime, Coach Mitchell was still hopeful. “We were having a really tough first half out there, I think that we need to move the ball better,” said Mitchell.  “We definitely can come back in the second half, we’re doing well out there.”

Heading into the second half, the offense did an amazing job with running and throwing the ball, but unfortunately the Wildcats fumbled the ball late in the third quarter. That’s when the Tigers scored another touchdown. By the 4th quarter, the Wildcats  were trailing 0-16 when Whitehaven scored their last touchdown. The 4th quarter was very tough for the Wildcats, and the match finished 0-23. After the game, linebacker Jordan Owens shared his feelings about the loss. Owens said “ It’s tough taking L’s but i’m going to do everything in my power to get my team right and keep them on track. This doesn’t stop us.”

This loss has hardly affected the team’s morale. Owens also said,  “So what? Now what? That’s the motto.” Recently, the team stormed through Central High School 35-21, proving that no  loss is too great for the Charging Wildcats to overcome.
