Officials reported that three Atlanta police officers were injured while responding to a call on Saturday evening. According to Atlanta PD Chief Darin Schierbaum, the incident took place on Desoto Avenue SW following a report of an individual carrying a firearm, which led to the officers’ prompt response.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officers came face to face with the suspect, who was said to be carrying both a handgun and a knife. During the incident, shots were fired and the unidentified suspect unfortunately lost their life, as confirmed by the chief.

The injured officers were quickly taken to Grady Hospital, where police sources reported that they were in a state of being alert, conscious, and breathing. Two officers who had been on the force for four years and one officer who had been serving for five months were among the injured.

Chief Schierbaum reported that one officer was injured by a gunshot to the shoulder, another officer was shot in the leg, and a third officer was grazed by a bullet. Two officers required surgery to treat their injuries.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens has expressed his support for the injured officers and their families. He praised the medical staff at Grady Hospital for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the officers’ recovery.
