After an amazing season, the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats took home not one– but two State Championship titles on Mar 10, 2022 at the Hot Springs Convention Center.

The girls’ basketball team started the night off with a 22 point lead win against Northside High School ending in a score of 60-38. The boys followed with an 18 point lead win against Bentonville High School and an end score of 65-47.

Senior Amauri Williams, named MVP of the girls’ game, gives all her credit to her teammates, “I couldn’t do it without my teammates, it was all a collective effort, and I do what I can for them and play hard.” Williams is signed and committed to Vanderbilt University on a full athletic scholarship and hopes to continue to succeed in her basketball career.

Amauri Williams, an NLRHS senior, is this year’s state most valuable player.

Nick Smith, with 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists was named MVP of the boys’ game. Smith’s gratitude was through the roof: “I’m a champ now baby!” Smith is committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks and fans have no doubt that he will go pro.

Nick Smith scored 25 points and represented the boys as MVP.

To young athletes who look up to NLR basketball players Williams has a few words of advice, “The days that are hard, keep pushing because it doesn’t rain forever, If this is something you really want to do then put your all into it.”
